City/County Government Reporter - Billings Gazette


The Billings Gazette, Montana's largest newspaper, is looking for a full-time city/county government reporter to cover the state's largest city, a reporter who's eager to cover council fights and sewage plant backups, tax district squabbling and homeless shelter embezzlement. Someone who can puzzle out long-term investigative and enterprise reporting that covers the impacts local government has on our readers. It's the most important kind of watchdog journalism. We want a candidate who can ask tough questions, investigate trends and find fresh angles to pursue.


We have a vibrant and hardworking newsroom, which makes it a great environment for a new reporter to develop their skills and grow as a reporter and writer. We work hard and have fun.


A bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field is preferred. We will consider strong recent graduates with reporting experience. Social media and video experience are a plus.
